Decades ago there was a basket of sci-fi movies describing various dystopian options we were all headed towards. Several of these movies ended with Charlton Heston shouting something at the end. We would laugh (we were probably suffering from smoke inhalation issues) and make remarks about those crazy Hollywood people.

Boy, were we wrong.

All of our phone conversations on land line and cellular are recorded. So are our texts, tweets and emails. Our credit card purchases are tracked. Everything we type in social media is recorded. All of our travels in metropolitan areas are on candid camera. Our internet connected appliances can spy on us.

A full 40% of us are one missed pay day removed from financial disaster. There isn't much of a chance most of us non-union types will be able to retire until we're placed in a pine box. The economic policy of english speaking countries can be summed up as, "Destroy the middle class".

The US is constantly at war.

The US is in a constant election cycle.

A handful of corporations own most of the news media.

A handful of people own most of the world’s wealth.

Large numbers of our modern population think the earth is a flat spinning disk and another large chunk of us believe that vaccines don’t work.

The media rarely discusses facts - they're more concerned with telling you what to think.

We are not headed towards a dystopian future; we're already in one.
